Life of a Topper

How many of us, how many have actually made fun of toppers? All of us, I guess. Let me share their viewpoints now and situations which they all hate with all their heart.

1. “You are so lucky”

Whenever they get a good score in an exam( which is almost always ) there will be a few people who say you are so lucky. LUCKY?! Studied for around 4 hours a day, made notes, practiced papers and all you can say is LUCKY?!😀

2. “You study all day, don’t you?”

Yeah, everyone thinks all they do is study. Guys, they do have their own hobbies and they don’t study all day! No one can study all day! If they can they are probably Martians!!!!🀯

3. “Friends”πŸ‘€

Most people except your close friends ignore you thinking you’re too boring and stuck up(coming to this point later). But magically you become their BEST FRIENDS when they need “something”( we’ll come to this as well)

4. “Toppers are boring and stuck-up”

Gah, what do I say about this? NOT ALL OF THEM ARE! I mean its not like they would break out suddenly into a math formula or a science fun fact. And oh please not all are stuck up, actually most aren’t. And trust me, toppers do have friends who are not toppers and not once do they undermine them.

5. “Notes”

How can I ever forget this? Their notes are distributed like prashad( sacred food ) to everyone. The whole sections at times. And some people want to be their friends just for that one reason!😑

Toppers aren’t the worst of people you would find and these are some misconceptions.

  2. Lovely post. Now, I can see a lot of toppers here πŸ˜… . I won’t call myself topper even though I got good marks. I was a kind of person who bunked a lot of classes, had whole class as my friend, made fun of teachers, disturbed my whole class, fought sweetly with my classmates, often submitted my notes late yet was 1 or 2 …. My teachers and students said that all I did was to study in home and the reason why I came to school is to disturb others. This brought a whole lot of memories and I’m seriously laughing like a stupid.
But, you know it’s not average ppls fault too . The reason why I say this is that they are always being compared and they’ve been told that all toppers do is study.
Fortunately, our class had no such things , we did best and we had friends , no such compliments but was so competitive. Like we even ended up making personal comments. It was always boys vs girls . It was toppers who fought. Unfortunately, I was one of the trouble maker. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ . Ah, I’m laughing aty stupidity….
All thanks to you… For bringing up those sweet memories

  3. I can’t agree more!!! Being a topper it’s one of my pet peeves when someone’s like “How do you study all day??” like dude… no one….not a single person studies ALL DAY…But the worst part is when they say: “Nah…You are just hiding your study tricks…No prob, I’ll just go ask another topper” n I m like “πŸ˜‘ Ok Sure If that’s what you think…Please take your leave…*Even though you’re not getting a better answer there* ”
Anyways, a really cool and relatable post. Would love a post about ALL ROUNDERS from you! 😊

    1. Oh god yes
Like I am physically incapable of studying for more than 2 hours at once and all day is like IMPOSSIBLE

Thank you so much! That’s a great idea, would deffo work on it😁

  4. Ohh this is relatable! I was literally nodding to every point here. And the last point about notes… my God, especially in this pandemic time ppl have gone crazy begging for notes.

  5. Ahahahaha. God I fell off my chair laughing!!! This really makes me reminisce about those old school days. Toppers are good fellas though πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ The stereotyping is sooo relatable. Dude, you covered everything there was to cover about the problems of toppers. This was seriously so funnyπŸ˜‚

  6. Lot of comment here says, that they are Toppers! πŸ™„πŸ™„ But I am seriously NOT!
And I am sure you are a Topper and you are facing these issues. But cool…. The candle is looked for when the darkness surrounds. Be proud of being a candle! ❀️❀️

  7. πŸ˜‚ This post was unfortunately too true! I’m considered one of the “smart girls” in my class, and every single person in the school becomes my friend.

I had to deal with “Pshh…It’s YOU. You don’t need to study! You’ll get an A!”

But, since I am considered one of the “smart” students, I’m considered a “good” kid by teachers and fellow students which means I literally get away with anything. Muahahaha!

    1. Oh god samee! Everyone is like you already know the stuff, why study?

That’s one advantage for sure. Teachers never scold me for not bringing a book or not completing my Homework on time coz I am a good kid and these things are rare with meπŸ˜‚

  8. Our thoughts are absolutely parallel.
Toppers study, but that doesn’t mean that they’re boring! Toppers can be fun and cool. They study because maybe they want to prepare for the future, for whatever they wanna be and there is nothing boring about that! guys, grow up! Toppers can be amazing so stop making stereotypes and talking behind their back!

this was an amazing post, Akshita. You’re awesome πŸ‘πŸ»

  9. The weird thing is, I’m not even a topper anymore and people still think I am and they say I study too much πŸ˜‘.
I think this was a rant from a topper, are you a topper, akshita πŸ˜‚?
    Loved the post btw!!

      1. Cut off marks is like you know in colleges require a certain percentage or marks to get admission..so what’s your cut off marks for qualifying as a topper?
        *now my question feels stupid*

      2. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ like what do you think is the percentage sufficient enough to be called a topper like 90% and above or somethingπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  10. That’s a great post from a toppers point of view yet I have always heard the brighter side of being a topper. I have always been an average student and felt the pressure of being compared with a topper. It was ridiculous of being compared and I saw the same thing happening with my son too. I don’t envy a topper but I don’t like being compared.

  11. This is so geniune post Akshita. Topper have always been treated as bored and intellegent by birth. I don’t call my self topper, but some of my school friends still had misconception that I am topper and whenever they said so in a teasing manner I have to correct them!πŸ˜…

You know, I got 10 cgpa in class 10. But, I don’t call myself that intellegent to hold that cgpa. And on that day, I was not all happy. If I recieved 9.6 or 9.8 cgpa I’ll be happy to get thatπŸ˜…. Ig, my luck is on my side. Touchwood πŸ˜…

Btw, great article Akshita. Also, can you please comment once on my blog? I recieved mailed that my comment is now working..

  13. I could definitely relate to this. I was the kind of person in school who people would have edit and check their essays before they submitted them, but then people wouldn’t want to be my friend because they thought I was boring. And yes I definitely worked hard not was ‘lucky’. I agree with all of these points. Thanks for sharing.

  14. The accuracy in this post is just too high! This used to happen to me A LOT when I was in Grade 6. The only difference was that they used to make fun of me behind my back.πŸ˜‘

Besides, being a topper/smart kid is a lot of hard work. Ish like that just doesn’t come easily, it comes with lots of effort! πŸ™„

  15. I am no stranger to these situations, Akshita!! People think I wake up at 5 in the morning and study!🌞 well, who does that!! They often think I am boring, so yeah, I lack friends. I am glad you wrote about thisπŸ˜ƒ

  16. Being a topper during my school and college, I can totally relate to and understand this. I’m glad that someone came out and wrote in favour of us while majority are busy trolling our category. And I’m glad that it’s you. Everyone makes fun of toppers until it’s exam time and placement time. Then everyone wants to have an audience with them.
