5 Lesser Known Fantasy Series That You Ought To Try!

No one can ever really get enough of fantasy books. They’re always so….fantastical, I mean come on, much more interesting than our dreary world, right?

So, here’s some non-popular great fantasy books, that you should try someday:-

  • The Spoken Mage – Melanie Cellier

“It features Elena, who lives in a world where the mageborn wield power with written words. As a commonborn she shouldn’t be able to safely wield power at all—and she certainly shouldn’t be able to do it with spoken words. Elena has the potential to change her world—but first she has to survive the Royal Academy, a host of mageborn…and Prince Lucas.”

I looooveee this series to legit Mount Olympus and back! The setting, the writing style, the characters, I can’t complain!

  • The Hidden Mage Melanie Cellier

“The Hidden Mage series continues the story begun in The Spoken Mage series. It follows Elena’s daughter, Verene, who is sent to the Kallorwegian Academy for her mage training. As the daughter of an immensely powerful mage, Verene’s biggest challenge is that she has no power herself. She is confronted with Darius, the crown prince of Kallorway, a powerful mage with a powerless father”

Darius’s character is like so perfectly written. He is that one fictional guy who gives me the vibes that this is excatly what a real prince might feel and act like. I honestly loved the plot of this book, this is one of those sequels that you like more than the previous books.

  • Court of Midnight and DeceptionK.M Shea

“The fae of the Night Court are desperately searching for a new monarch to crown before the Court collapses.

I couldn’t care less.

I’ve done everything I can to bury my fae blood and embrace my human half. That changes when some fae nobles show up on my doorstep and announce that I’m the next Queen of the Night Court.

Becoming an unwilling fae queen? Check. Inheriting a terrible mess? Double check.

The Court is almost bankrupt, my citizens’ favorite hobby is backstabbing one another, and I don’t know who I can trust since someone keeps trying to assassinate me.

Speaking of assassins, I get introduced to the best in the business—a fae lord nicknamed the Wraith. His deadly profession means he fears no one. The only reason he doesn’t kill me on the spot is he’s also a member of the Night Court and the Court’s magic protects me. But that doesn’t prevent him from trading verbal barbs with me whenever we meet.

And if cat herding all these uncooperative fae and chatting with assassins wasn’t enough, I’m required to get married as part of some archaic Court law. This “queen” gig is the worst!

Supposedly I can choose anyone to marry, but with all the infighting I need someone who is neutral and won’t provoke more political power struggles.

So, why do I keep thinking of a certain assassin?”

With this small blurb, I present before you the character of Leila!! Just read this because of this one character! Her sarcasm and jabs is sooo on point that even during the saddest scenes you’ll be grinning like a fool! And isn’t the idea of a fae queen being with thinking about an assassin interesting? *cue shinchan’s eyebrow dance*

  • Unfinished Fairy Tales Aya Ling

“To-do list:
*Persuade the prince to give the ball
*Learn how to act like a noble lady
*Find fairy godmother
*Prevent other stepsister from sinking her claws into Prince Charming
*Find out why Cinderella has a mother and two brothers in the poorhouse

When Kat accidentally rips apart an old picture book, she’s magically transported into the world of Cinderella–as Katriona, one of the ugly stepsisters! Life turns upside down now that she’s a highborn lady and must learn how to survive the social season, including how to get through the door in a huge metal hoop skirt. To get back, she’ll have to complete the story, right to the end of happily ever after. But the odds are huge: the other stepsister is drop-dead gorgeous, the fairy godmother is nowhere to be found, and the prince, despite being insanely hot, openly dislikes balls. Can she ever return to the modern world?”

(I even wrote my own series of retellings inspired by the ripping book thing!)

I genuinely love this series with all my heart. The Prince is actually charming and guess what he is not as brave and all that crap that every prince has to be. He cries, he squeals and he is soooo loving *clutches heart* You would actually melt on the floor going all awwww over these books.

  • Maid of Iron– Aya Ling

“Gifted by a grateful mage, Chiara and her brother each received a blessing at birth. Chiara and her twin brother each received a blessing at birth. Thanks to a mistake, she was saddled with extraordinary strength instead of extraordinary beauty. Certain that men couldn’t desire a girl who could lift a horse with one hand, she vowed to keep her power a secret. As a petite girl, she had no problem appearing to be ordinary. But when bandits start terrorizing her town and a handsome stranger accidentally learns of her secret, Chiara finds herself facing the very crisis she’s been trying to avoid.”

Isn’t the idea of a girl having unparalleled strength so unique?

While the books may get a little slow at times, I love them. You’d want to continue Chiara’s story till the very end and after that you wouldn’t wanna be an inhabitant of Earth. In particular, the characters here were so adorable <333

And, that’s a wrap

I hope you do try these out! Let me know what you think later!!
